MİM Conference Series 2007

Title:

RENEWABLE ENERGY and ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Essentials

Speaker: Serpil Guran, Ph.D., Research Scientist,
NJ Department of Environmental Protection

(Click here for the PDF file containg the presentation.)

Date:        November 4, 2007 at 12:00 Noon
Place:       Ali Baba Restaurant, 212 E 34th St, NY

ABSTRACT
Currently, developed and developing societies rely heavily on coal, oil, and natural gas for their energy needs.  Fossil fuels are nonrenewable, and it is an accepted reality by many that the current energy sources especially oil and gas, followed by coal will not last forever, are becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve, process and utilize.  Increased levels of human activities and comfort induce increased dependence on external energy sources.  Adverse environmental and health affects of fossil fuel usage and energy security problems result in having to use the current sources wisely and also create other clean and sustainable energy sources for today and tomorrow.
