Presenting Prof. Nejat Veziroglu on 21. Century's Energy: Hydrogen Energy System. Veziroglu is one of the world's leading advocates of developing hydrogen-based economy as a solution to the world's dependence on fossil fuels and as a way to reverse the damaging effects on the environment from using those fuels.

As founding director of UM's Clean Energy Research Institute, he has spent more than 25 years studying the potential benefits of utilizing hydrogen as a primary energy source. "Hydrogen is the energy system of the next century," Veziroglu says. Veziroglu's research may play a vital role during the next century in helping to reduce the environmental degradation that comes from the industrialized world's practice of generating most of its energy by burning oil, natural gas and coal. The University of Miami is the headquarters for the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE), of which Veziroglu is the president. The IAHE publishes the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, which presents papers and findings from many of the world's most prominent energy researchers. Since 1976 the IAHE has also organized the biennial World Hydrogen Energy Conferences. University of Miami College of Engineering Professor T. Nejat Veziroglu has been nominated for the 2000 Nobel Prize in Economics by the 5th Baku International Congress on Energy, Ecology & Economy held recently in Baku, Azerbaijan.
